Busy, Busy

Two weeks since I've posted?! We must have been busy... though I don't quite remember. One of the side effects of having twins. I do remember having issues with trying to get out of here next year. I do remember going to some parks. I had some friends visit. Yep, I think we were busy. Here is a recap of what the kids have been doing:

The Kitsap County Fair- Evan's Dopplebunny.

Painting Modern Art for the living room wall.

New school clothes shopping.

Playing dress-up.

Having Afternoon Tea at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC
(Oh wait, that was just me- without kids!!).

Exploring new parks (this is Gasworks Park in Seattle).

Running around giant silos that used to contain gas in the early 1900's.

Only Evan could pull off looking this cute while hugging a giant metal container.
(Does he think it's a tree? They do hug those...)

New Camera Pics

I've wanted a nice, new DSLR camera for some time. I almost bought one, then I decided I didn't have time to learn how to use it. Then John go into it, got one, and learned how to use it himself. I've taken some pics, but only on AUTO 'cause I don't know what I'm doing yet.

Here are some good ones. The first two are mine!

I love this picture of me. Caught in the act. I'm just resting, but it looks like I'm screaming inside.

I am a People of Walmart

Since I always admit to embarrassing moments in motherhood, I thought I would admit something pretty big. As of last Friday, I am officially a "People of Walmart".

It was very hot that day and I decided to check out the Bremerton waterfront, where there are many fountains that supposedly kids can play in.  I should mention here that there was a woman in her 50's in the fountain when we got there. She didn't even look like a Walmart person.  Anyway, I wanted to check it out first before actually changing them into suits. But of course I forgot towels and suits.  Since they had their swim shoes on, I did let them sit on the ledge of another fountain and stick their legs in. Of course I had to take their pants off when we got to the van.

(The cones in the background are exploding fountains you can play in)

Now the other important thing to do during my day was to stop and get milk.  I didn't want to drive all the way home to change them, get them back in the car, and go all the way back in the direction I came from to get milk.

A person with toddler twins or young children will understand this. I had a weak moment. I couldn't deal with going all the way home, so I said, "screw it." And through process of elimination, I decided that Walmart would be the best place to bring my kids in their diapers. People at Walmart already expect to see this.

Amelia was in a shirt and diaper in the back of the double stroller, so you can't really see her, right? (wink, wink.)

Evan had on a onesie and no shorts, which is a little weird to see barefoot long legs hanging out the front of the stroller. (Yes, didn't you know Carter's makes onesies up to size 6X?)

So I fast walked in the door, got the milk, and then decided, well heck I'm in here, might as well get the Tide.  It was at this point that I remembered the People of Walmart website and got really nervous.  Looking around, I did see a very, very large woman in overalls, so I prayed that she would end up on the site if anyone were to at that moment. I then booked it out of there and checked myself out through the self-check lane.

I just checked the website and luckily we weren't on there. Lesson learned!

Maggie and Evan

Maggie is missing a radius and thumb, too. She is three and is too cute with her strawberry blond curls. I didn't notice until I saw the picture that they look related.

We spent the day with Maggie and her mom Sherilyn, who live a few hours away and were in town for vacation. We went to Seattle Center where they have a Children's Museum, kiddie rides, and a butterfly garden at the Pacific Science Center.

I don't think the kids thought much about seeing each other's arms, but I hope our families can get together again as they get older. It will be nice for them to know someone just like them. They are wonderful people and we had so much fun!

Day Out With Thomas

For my non-Facebook friends like Grandma and Grandpa...
We spent last Saturday traveling to Snoqualmie, WA, where the train museum held "Day Out With Thomas".  Finally! We bought these tickets the first day they went on sale to the public in April. It was a sold out event for all 6 days.  If you have a little guy (or girl), I highly recommend.  It is a shame that Thomas is geared toward boys. If I would've had just Amelia, I would never know how much she might enjoy trains. She and Evan spend hours every day at the train table with all of the Thomas trains. She loves Molly, Lady, Rosie, and Emily. I don't understand why they don't have merchandise for the girls. I might write them and tell them to make some girl stuff. I have always thought that things like pink dinosaur jammies would have an amazing market. Just one of my hundred ideas that will never go anywhere...

You Don't Have To Lie To Me!

As the twins get older, annoying things aren't happening to me as much (see 2008 posts).  Yes, I get asked if they are twins every day, but it's a more reasonable question now that Evan is an inch taller and meatier.  No one is trying to touch them.  No one is standing in my way staring without saying anything.  I'm not even being told I'm blessed anymore.

No, as they get older, I'm finding a new phenomenon: Other twin moms lying to me. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just the women in my area.  Maybe they're delusional. All I know is that I have twins and love to talk to other twin moms about what they are going through.  I get nothing. Blank stares in the headlights, fake smiles, and an extra spring in their step to show me just how wonderful they are doing.

Here are a few things that have happened lately:

Scenario 1- The Perfect Twins
ME: to a mom with 11 months old girl twins: "Are you getting any sleep yet?"
HER: "Yes, they've been sleeping through the night since 3 months."
ME: internal eye roll.
ME: "Were they born early?"
HER: "No, they are actually big and perfectly healthy." Walks away and doesn't even want a conversation.

You know why this is total BS? Because I met her at a therapy playgroup for babies with development delays!!  Don't tell me your twins are perfect and you have a perfect life when your babies won't eat and have sensory issues! Talk to me, I'm a mother of twins, I have friends with twins who might have some of the same problems. You don't have to be perfect for me, jeez.

Scenario 2- The Walking Dead
ME: to a mom with 1 month old twins: "Are you getting any sleep yet?"
HER: "Oh yeah, they are on a schedule already."
ME: I let out a little evil laugh as she pushed them out of the elevator.

BS!!! Your hair looks like birds are living it and you have giant purple circles under your eyes! You rolled in and out of the elevator in a complete daze! Great, they are on a schedule. So you are up every three hours with them together- you are still up every three hours.  Don't lie to me! Your are freaking tired and your world is in complete chaos!

Scenario 3- The 2yr Olds Who Don't Run
ME: to a mom with 2 yr old twins: "Wow, you're brave walking through the store without a stroller."
HER: "They are really good at not running from me, they always stick right by my side."
ME: internal "You've got to be kidding me. That's amazing if it's true."
HER: "Let's go girls, we've got to get home." She opens the door and they both take off running toward the parking lot at 50mph.

Liar, liar, liar!!!

I'm not understanding why these women are lying to me. I've never kept how hard it is to have twins a secret to anyone. Other mothers understand, even mothers with one or more single babies.

Right now, I'm thinking it is the area I live in. I've never run into this before. I keep trying to make friends and no one is interested. Poor me, right? No way, I'm thinking poor them. Because I'm fantastic :)
