Thumbtastic!

Oh, it is so nice to go to a doctor and have them tell you not to come back! Last Thursday we trekked over to Seattle Children's Hospital to see the hand surgeon again. He said Evan's thumb looked fantastic. I knew this already of course. I've seen amazing strides of development the past few weeks. The space between his thumb and forefinger is stretching out nicely and the thumb is starting to curl inward like a real thumb. Also, his physical therapist says that she has not seen a plateau in his strength yet. So it was no surprise, but still nice to hear that we are not wanted anymore! We are just going to stop in before we move next year and get some names of hand specialists that will be in our new area, wherever that is. And we will probably take some X-rays to make sure his radius bone is growing appropriately (oh, I hope so!).

Also- he picked up a gallon of milk yesterday. A gallon of milk!! Amelia couldn't even do it!

Where's the bone go, Mommy?

The past week has been all about bones. One of their favorite songs is "Dem Bones". We have a cartoon where a bunch of skeletons dance to the song and talk about each bone. This week we went to the KidiMu (Kids Museum of Bainbridge Island). One of the highlights was the skeleton puzzle.

Evan has been studying his left arm a lot lately, so I've been taking that as a signal to start talking to him more about his arm. Yesterday at lunch he was playing with the point at the wrist, which is actually the ulna protruding into the skin. I told him that he has only one bone in his arm and that the other one is missing (I've told him this in passing, but never a one on one serious discussion.) He looked right at me and said, "Where's the bone go, Mommy?" I told him it was missing. He said, "What happened?" I explained that it never grew while he was in my belly, but it's OK because he's fine without it. He can do anything. He thought about that, then he went back to eating.

I'm sure we will talk about it a lot in the coming months. He loves skeletons and studies every little detail of, well, just about everything. He's so darn smart.

Kids Safety Day

Yesterday was beautiful for a change! It was Kids Day at the fairgrounds and Evan and Amelia both got a bicycle helmet, which was fitted by the fire department. It was a coincidence that they were doing this, because we just got the kids tricycles and needed to get them helmets.

The reason we went to Kids Day was to take Evan to see the firetrucks and firefighters. Amelia hasn't seemed to care about firetrucks and proved that to us yesterday. She didn't care about them at all and just wanted to eat her popcorn. I think you can hear her talk about her popcorn in one of the videos. Evan sat in every firetruck and didn't want to stop. He cried as we left.

A few more pics are in a photobucket album: Kids Day.

A Big Boy/Girl Now

They are growing up so fast. They are full of spunk. Amelia is sassy and makes me laugh. Evan thinks giving us grief is the funniest thing ever. He has this little evil laugh when we get aggravated with him. Oh the joys. I find it so funny myself that I have to leave the room for a second and silently laugh.

They are getting bigger, but still on the way to small side of weight. A few weeks ago Evan was 23.8 lbs (<3%), and Amelia was 21.6 (<3%). Yes, that's not zero percentile anymore! And they are both 15% in height. So that makes them just the cutest little things in my book (and several others I know's books).  The Navy switched our pediatrician AGAIN and now we have an older gentleman who, like the other older gentleman last year, does not seem too worried about their growth. They were living, breathing, and looked pink, so they are just fine. Can I get someone in the middle, please?

They are getting their toddler beds in the mail this week, so we are busy trying to get their rooms ready. They love saying, "I'm a big girl" and "I'm a big boy". The cribs need to be gone because they climb out often, but I'm not looking forward to trying to keep them in their rooms at night. Especially Evan, who doesn't want to go to sleep ever. Once he is asleep, he is a rock, though. Amelia loves to go to sleep, but she is the one who still wakes up in the middle of the night at least once. So I will have to deal with getting her back in her room. Oh, well, it has to happen at some point. It should be interesting.

We also sit at the table all together now. I was waiting to move before setting up a table, but now since we will be here longer I have no excuse. But all they do is push the table around with their legs. Nothing will stop them and our hair is falling out.

Here is an awesome little movie that makes me tear up every time I watch it. It shows my hero, my Evan! My Hero.
