Before I continue, I should say that the "worst case scenario" of needing immediate surgery has been eliminated. He may or may not have a small hole in his heart. Most babies have this (at least in the upper chambers), but the hole closes after they are born. So we have no way of knowing if the hole is closing until he is a couple of months old. This is a more common diagnosis, so the risks are not as severe if it happens. And he might even be just fine!
Back to the rock star. We asked the pre-natal doctor to look at the sexes again just to make sure. You never know, right? As soon as he put the ultrasound thingy down on my belly, his goods were right there. Our boy immediately proceeded to pee in live motion. Now, you may be saying, "so what." But did you know it is extremely rare to catch this on ultrasound? Our doctor was so giddy about seeing this, he had to run out and get people to show. He actually got someone out of a meeting. He printed out a copy of the still picture and I told him he could post it on the bulletin board. Unfortunately, we were not able to create a file of the pee coming out in motion. But I have the picture just for you!
Description: hopefully, it obvious that his boy part is sticking straight up in the middle. This is a butt shot. The leg on the right is bent down at the knee (see the lower leg bone?) and his foot is in front of his butt. You can't see much of the other leg on the left because it is bent up by his head. And most importantly, see that cloud of of gray shooting out?
OK, now that we know it is a boy, I should say that our little girl is still a girl! Yay!
